If you are stopping by to find questions for your book club, please leave a note for me telling me where you are from!
It’s time for the online book club for A Paris Apartment by Michelle Gable. I hope you enjoyed reading this book. I really liked this book and was fascinated to find out afterwards that it’s actually historical fiction.
You can discuss the questions in the comments section below on the blog or join us on Facebook.
Thanks for joining us! April’s book will be The Chilbury Ladies’ Choir by Jennifer Ryan. For more details, visit the Online Book Club page.
- First off, have you been to Paris?
-
What would you do if you discovered an apartment in Paris that hadn’t been touched in 70 years?
-
What are your initial impressions of April, Troy, Luke and Marthe?
-
Some of Marthe’s journal entries are quite scandalous. However, I’m sure there are women who lived like that in France. How hard do you think it was for Marthe to go from convent living to being a courtesan?
-
Tell the truth – did you think April’s mother was dead or not when she revealed to Luc that she had been alive and had just passed away?
-
April is always waiting for the worst to happen. Her mother went away. She felt abandoned by her father. Her husband cheats on her. Have you ever felt like this? How can a person change from having this attitude? Do you think it’s realistic how April’s attitude changed after talking to her father?
-
Would April have changed if she hadn’t met Luc? Has meeting one person ever changed your life drastically?
-
This book is actually historical fiction. There was a Giovanni Boldini, Victor Hugo, Moulin Rouge, Nazi invasion of Paris … and even an apartment untouched with a Boldini painting inside (read about it here). Does this change any of your views of the novel?
-
What is your favorite moment from the book? Least favorite?
-
If your parent had Alzheimer’s, would you want to take a test to know if you had a chance of getting the disease, too?
-
If your spouse cheated on you as a one-time thing, would you want to know about it? If you did it, would you tell?
-
Overall, did you like the book? Why or why not?
-
What’s a question I didn’t ask that you’d like to discuss?
