How many people in your life do you actually trust? We usually only have a handful among the many people we know who can tell us the truth, give us a kick when we need it and provide a safe place to be real. These kinds of relationships are authentic and are something we should aim to achieve in more of our relationships. The Trust Protocol provides a way to try to live a life with more authentic relationships – at home, at work and in the community.
As part of Baker Books Bloggers, I was able to request this book to review. I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for a fair review. I liked the idea of aiming for authentic relationships in all areas of life.
The book first explains what the trust protocol is: forging credibility through integrity and action. Mac Richards then goes on to explain how the protocol works in every situation, is hard work, can get messy and is worth all the effort. Richards gives examples from his own life, including times when he felt betrayed. I do like that he doesn’t say to trust everyone without merit. It’s okay to not trust everyone, but it’s also okay to try to find ways to forge relationships.
This book had some interesting ideas, but I don’t think it said much new on the topic of forging authentic relationships. For someone who hasn’t read much on the topic, it would be a good place to start. I would have liked the author to have gone more in-depth on many of the topics.
