What I’m reading: May 2017

I’m being more intentional with what I read this year. So far, so good. I’m really enjoying making sure I’m reading a variety of books each month. I’ve also found I’m reading more so I can reach my goals. In the past, I would usually just grab a book from my to-read pile or start reading what is available from my hold list on Overdrive. Instead, I am going to choose a fiction, historical, biographical, inspirational and classic to read each month and then after I have read those five, I can read whatever I find that’s available. I will also have book club books to read from a moms group and the online book club on this site. Oh, and there are the advanced copies I receive to review. Lots of reading going on here!

Fiction: The Broken Road by Richard Paul Evans

Richard Paul Evans is my favorite author and his first book in a new series comes out in May. I’m excited for the book to come in the mail very soon!

Historical: To The Last Man by Jeff Shaara

Shaara books are always a good read for historical fiction. I always learn a lot about history when I read his books.

Biographical: Amazing Grace: William Wilberforce and the Heroic Campaign to End Slavery by Eric Metaxas

This is one of the last Metaxas books I have to read. I always learn a lot when reading his books and recently read 7 Men and the Secret to Their Greatness that had a short biography of Wilberforce. I’m interested in learning more about this man who was a Christian lawmaker at a time when religion was not popular.

Inspirational: Uninvited by Lysa Terkeurst

I bought this book and the study guide to read and complete like I did with Present Over Perfect. I’m looking forward to reading something by Terkeurst as I’ve only heard her speak.

Classic: The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

My oldest daughter really wants to start reading the Lord of the Rings series, so we’re starting out with The Hobbit. I want to read it with her so we can discuss it. It’s been more than 15 years since I’ve read it, so I’m sure there are parts I have forgotten.
