Ashley Keller is a stay-at-home mom, doing her best every day to tackle the domestic life – and failing. She is tired, her house is dirty, the laundry pile is high, dinner is always an afterthought and she barely connects with her husband. She is happy every time she looks at her beautiful little girl, she just wishes she would sleep through the night. And, Ashley is lonely. She tries to make mom friends and ends up invited to a product party the first time she connects with another mom in a store.
Confessions of a Domestic Failure was the moms book club choice for July. It was a wonderful, funny book. We had a great time discussing our favorite parts of the book and agreed we all would highly recommend the book.
Ashley feels her life will finally change when she is chosen to participate in a Motherhood Better bootcamp run by parenting/life diva of the day. Weekly online group sessions revolve around motherhood topics such as fitness, crafting, connecting with other moms and organizing. Ashley tries, but fails at almost all of the tasks. She brings her honesty to the final getaway weekend and has all the moms confessing. No one is perfect and moms don’t need to do it all.
Bunmi Laditan’s writing style had me wondering if this book was a tell-all instead of fiction. Ashley is very relatable to any mother today who feels even the slightest pressure that some aspect of mothering isn’t up to par. I would recommend this book to any mom. You will laugh. You might cry. But, you will realize we’re all in this motherhood journey together and we are all just doing the best we can. (Please ignore the dust bunnies in my house.)
