A young art teacher is missing. The detective on the case has very few leads. Her parents worry in their own way – her mother is distraught and her father thinks she is off “having fun.” Her sister seems to side with her dad. There’s no note, no ransom, no evidence – just a missing woman. Where could she be?
The Good Girl was the book club choice for October for the moms book club. The lady who chose the book highly recommended it and compared it to Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train. It would be a thriller, but not scary.
The story is told from the point of view of Mia’s mother, Eve, the detective an the kidnapper, Colin. Colin is hired by someone to kidnap Mia for ransom, but he decides to take her away instead of turning her over, afraid of what would happen to her. In a remote cabin, Mia and Colin find a way to exist. The detective finally uncovers Colin’s identity, but has no idea where he would have taken Mia. The story ends in a way I never expected it would and I won’t give it away.
If you like books with twists, you will like The Good Girl. It’s definitely for adults, but it’s an interesting story. There’s some violence and psychological thrills. It would make a good book club book – I’m looking forward to discussing it with min.
