“A simplified life means that what has to get done will get done. And when we pare down life to its simplest, most beautifully basic parts, we’re left with room to enjoy each other, to rest, and to truly savor life with all our hearts, minds, and spirits.”

A simple life can lead to more time spent on family and dreams. A simple life means getting rid of the stuff and activities that take up space and time. A simple life can be freeing. In A Simplified Life, Emily Ley gives easy, realistic tips in how to achieve a simple life for yourself and your family. Rather than just give advice, Ley uses her own life as an example of how to create a simple life for your family. While this book is geared a lot toward families and moms, anyone can use the advice in any setting.

A friend of mine read this book and it looked like something I would be interested in. I put in on my to-read list and requested it from the library as an ebook through Overdrive. I actually waited a few weeks before it came available.

A Simplified Life first talks about the philosophy of a simple life. Having less stuff and less to do frees up time and space. It is easier to choose what to use or wear and even to clean up when there is less to begin with. The book then goes through several areas of life to give tips on how to simplify. Ley goes over decluttering, finances, meal planning, faith, parenting, scheduling, hospitality and self-care. The book itself is laid out very simply and gives quick tips at the end of every chapter to get you started in that area of life.

I have read several self-help books that cover this topic, but I found this one to be especially clear and helpful. I think most parents would get a lot out of the book, but even teenagers could use the tips on keeping a bedroom (and soon dorm or apartment) easy to manage. I visited her Web site after reading the book and will use some of her printables. She even offers a simplified planner.
