“They call the stuff ‘Wuhan-400’ because it was developed at the RDNA labs outside the city of Wuhan …”
Tina feels like she’s on the verge of getting her life back together. In the past, two years, her husband left her and then her son died in a tragic car accident. She’s producing a new Vegas show and it’s set to be a hit. She also finds a connection with a new acquaintance that has the possibility of a romance. Then, she finds a message in her dead son’s room on his chalkboard: NOT DEAD. Odd occurrences start happening that lead her to believe her son might not be dead after all.
I don’t often read books in the thriller genre, but when I heard about The Eyes of Darkness, I quickly added it to my to-read list. It got a lot of media attention in the spring of 2020 due to its “prediction” of coronavirus. It actually mentions a different virus, but it is called WUHAN-400. However, the connection to the world today was enough to generate a lot of buzz about this book. It took several months before it was my turn on the holds list with my local library.
The virus is not the focal part of The Eyes of Darkness. It is a story about good vs. evil and a mother’s connection to her son. The plot moves quickly and has a lot of action and a little romance. Tina and her new boyfriend have to work together to try and evade government hit men to track down where her son might be hidden away.
The Eyes of Darkness was a quick, fun read. I didn’t find many surprises in the plot, but I also was looking out for the mention of the virus, which doesn’t happen until the very, very end. Mature readers who love fiction will enjoy this book. It’s a good book to add to any 2020 reading list …. because it’s 2020.
