The Christmas Light by Donna VanLiere

The Christmas Light

“So much of life is made up of questions that we think matter today but are forgotten tomorrow.”

Though Jennifer’s husband died a few years ago, her young daughter is just now coming to terms with her father truly being gone. She has her in therapy and is encouraged when Avery agrees to join the children’s choir for the nativity program at a local church. Also helping with the program is Ryan, a single father who is moving to the area and has a daughter the same age as Avery. Throw in two older bickering ladies who are in charge of the program and a pregnant 16-year-old who is drawn to the church, and the town of Grandon will have a Christmas like none other.

I bought The Christmas Light at a local store when I was stocking up on holiday books. I read mostly holiday books in December to get into the Christmas spirit. They are usually books with happy endings, which is a great thing to rely on in the winter.

The story of Jennifer and her daughter Avery also involve a mystery stranger helping them during a car accident a year ago. He gave Jennifer a scarf, Avery an angel doll and prayed over them. Jennifer’s quest to track down the kind stranger and thank him leads her to someone who was right in front of her face.

The Christmas Light is a story of finding the hope needed to move forward after facing a huge loss. The book has Christian themes of love and hope without being preachy. It was a quick read but I really enjoyed the message of The Christmas Light.
