Candlelight Christmas by Susan Wiggs

Candlelight Christmas

“The best way to keep from stumbling over the past was to move forward.”

Darcy has had her heart broken in the biggest way – her husband cheated on her with his ex-wife and now she no longer has a relationship with him or his two children that she helped raise for several years. She’s open to love again, but not with a man who has children. Then, her friend takes her to see a concert at a camp where she meets her friends’ brother, Logan. He’s cute, nice, easy to talk to – but he has a son who he gets in the summer and for the holidays. It would be easy to forget about him except that to escape seeing her ex-husband at family events, she joins her friend’s family for them and that includes being near Logan.

I was searching for holiday ebooks to borrow from my local library and saw Candlelight Christmas was available. I haven’t read any Susan Wiggs books but have heard her name, so I picked it out. I read mostly holiday books during December to get into the Christmas spirit.

Logan needs a change in his life as his son will soon be moving to Japan with his mother and step-father who is in the military. He has a steady insurance business, but decides to take a huge risk and buy the local ski lodge from a man who is ready to retire and doesn’t have family who want to take it over. Logan loves hiking and skiing and while he hopes the work will be closer to fun and play, he quickly realizes how much money it takes to keep a ski lodge afloat. His family decides to have Christmas there instead of Florida for the first time and Darcy comes along. Logan feels drawn to her, too, but can he convince her that he’s worth the risk?

I enjoyed reading Candlelight Christmas as Darcy’s struggle with opening her heart again felt realistic. This is definitely a Christmas romance although not graphic. The children’s belief in Santa is also a big focus of the book.
