Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid 4

Daisy Jones & The Six

“I’m saying that when you really love someone, sometimes the things they need may hurt you, and some people are worth hurting for.”

Two paths of fame emerge in Daisy Jones & The Six. On one path, Daisy Jones grows up in LA with dreams of being a singer who sings the songs she writes. While she dreams and writes, she gets caught up in the rock ‘n’ roll scene doing drugs and sleeping around. When she gets a chance to get noticed for her voice and looks, she find out that she must put forth the effort to finish her songs and not just rely on getting by. Then, there is the struggle of falling in love.

On the other path is Billy Dunne. He teams up with his brother and some other musicians to create a band called The Six. In his mind, the band is a team, but to the rest, Billy is always in charge – singing, writing the songs, deciding what goes on the record and editing the tracks. When the band is paired up with Daisy for a song, songs are created that make the band a hit around the world. A connection between Daisy and Billy builds as they write songs together, but Billy has already fought to be a good man for his wife and children once and isn’t sure he’s strong enough to do it again.

I saw Daisy Jones & The Six on the bestsellers list and started seeing people who read it posting good reviews of the book. I put it on my library hold list and waited several weeks to check it out as an ebook through Libby.

Daisy Jones & The Six is a very captivating book. It’s written in an interview style with the author going chronologically through the story, but telling it in each character’s own words. It was similar to reading a magazine article interview, but a longer one. I finished the book quickly, wanting to know what happened next for the band.

Readers who enjoy good fiction will enjoy Daisy Jones & The Six. Just know it will be hard to put down. The book is more for adult readers since it does discuss drug use and sleeping around (although not graphic).
