Dave Barry’s Greatest Hits by Dave Barry

“Once again we find ourselves enmeshed in the Holiday Season, that very special time of year when we join our loved ones in sharing centuries-old traditions such as trying to find a parking space at the mall.”

Dave Barry is a funny man. His work is classic and it deals mostly with human nature. Published in 1989, Dave Barry’s Greatest Hits is a compilation of his columns published so far. It’s nice to read about a time before the Internet and cell phones were commonplace, though. Human nature is the same, with or without technology.

Our library was holding an adult summer reading program contest. It was a bingo game and one square was to read a funny book. I knew that choosing a Dave Barry book was a guaranteed laugh.

With topics regarding holidays, traveling, humor, writing, relationships and politics. The only parts I didn’t like were the political sections. Some of the references may have dealt with current events that most people are now not aware of. Also, there’s a sense that politics should be left out of polite conversation – even humorous ones.

I laughed and enjoyed this book. I would recommend any Dave Barry book if you’re looking for a light, but humorous, read.
