(Photo is of a story prompt I did in one of my classes.)
I don’t have great handwriting at all. I prefer to type things out if I can. I really wish I had good handwriting. One of my daughters has beautiful handwriting. The difference I think is in our elementary teachers.
I had a teacher who rewarded us with free time once our work was done. I wrote to get the assignment done – legible, but done. I learned to rush.
She had a teacher that rewarded them for a perfect paper. Perfect meant not just correct in answers, but also in how the handwriting looked. She learned to take her time.
I also had to learn shorthand when I would interview people for articles. I had to write things down fast to catch what they said.
I’m working on it, though. When I journal in the mornings, most days I try to remind myself to slow down. My hands just want to keep up with my brain. I’m not in a rush anymore, though.
