The Noel Letters by Richard Paul Evans

Noel Letters

“Humility is the power to admit that you may be wrong. Admitting to false beliefs is not weakness, it is the first step on the path to truth.”

Noel Post has her world fall apart all in a short period of time – she gets divorced, finds out her father is dying and then loses her job a few weeks before Christmas. She has barely talked to her father since she was a teenager and now 16 years later she heads back “home” to see him before he passes away. She blames him for her mother’s death. She remembers her mother trying to leave one night and her father trying to stop her and then she got into a car accident. Once she is back and sees her father’s world and his friends, she wonders if she really knew him at all?

I preordered The Noel Letters several months ago. Richard Paul Evans is my favorite author and I always look forward to reading his books. (Find my reviews of his books here.) The Noel Letters was the first book I finished for my holiday reading for 2020. I usually mostly read holiday-themed books in December to get into the Christmas spirit.

Noel’s father leaves her his insurance policy and his bookstore and Noel has to decide if she wants to stay or go back to her publishing job in New York City. Complicating matters is Dylan – her first boyfriend. He stops by one night after finding she is in town and one dinner to catch up turns into another. Noel must face learning the truth about herself and her father or running away and holding on to the reality she believed in for 16 years.

I read The Noel Letters in one day and was so glad for this story. It’s a story focused on a father and daughter relationship and how we can see just the side of the story we want to see. The truth is out there if we want to find it, though.
