The Other Woman by Daniel Silva

The Other Woman

“Everything I did, I did as a matter of conscience.”

In the world of a spy, no one can be trusted completely. Double agents and triple agents can easily be found – bribed by money, pleasures or blackmail. Gabriel Allon, the head of Israel’s intelligence agency, knows there is a mole somewhere after they are blamed for the death of a Russian agent trying to defect. Yet, only a handful of people could have known the location of the defection to kill the man. The mole must be Israeli, American or British – and he will find out who it is in The Other Woman.

I have two friends who have talked about Daniel Silva books being some of their favorites for a while. When I needed an audiobook for a road trip, The Other Woman was available and I thought it would be a good chance to see what his books are all about. I don’t often read crime/thriller books, but I trust my friends’ tastes in books.

As Allon circles in on who he thinks is the mole, he finds a family left behind by an infamous man who was a Russian spy posing as a British spy and managed to escape before getting caught. Uncovering this family tie leads to a discovery of one of Russia’s best-kept secrets. In the end, Allon must decide if risking his own life is worth capturing the mole. He also discovers how quickly allies can become enemies and enemies can become allies.

I enjoyed listening to The Other Woman as an audiobook. I did guess pretty correctly how the book was going to end, so it would have been nice if it had been a bit more of a surprise. (Even my friends said the same thing about the book, which I found out after I started reading it.) I can see how fans of Tom Clancy would enjoy Daniel Silva books. I don’t often read this genre, but when I do, I want to read an excellent writer who can keep me guessing.

Do you enjoy Daniel Silva books? If so, which one is your favorite? Share on the blog!
