Waiting For Tom Hanks by Kerry Winfrey

Waiting For Tom Hanks

“The things that suck still suck, but they’re allowed to be happy. And maybe it means so much more that they’re happy, knowing that they still carry all that sadness with them.”

Annie Cassidy believes in true love. It’s what her parents had and every romantic comedy fills her with the hope that one day she will find her “Tom Hanks.” While she also dreams of having a movie produced from her own screenplay, she lives in a world where she’s happy, but stuck. She writes freelance Web content, lives in her old family home with her uncle and visits the coffee shop where her best friend works daily. It’s the same thing day after day until a rom-com is set to film in Columbus.

I “met” Kerry Winfrey when I did a Zoom romance authors panel for the Ohioana Book Festival. Love is Complicated had four romance authors and the panel was pre-recorded and released Aug. 29 for the virtual festival. Winfrey’s book description of Waiting For Tom Hanks piqued my interest and it was available fairly quickly to check out as an ebook from my local library.

Annie ends up with a job as the director’s assistant for the movie since her uncle was his roommate in college. On the set, she meets the handsome movie star who seems to rub her the wrong way every day. Others see a connection, but she pursues dating other guys just to prove everyone wrong. As she lets her guard down, mistakes are made that are hard to forgive. Annie has to decide if love is really worth the risk.

I am so glad I read Waiting for Tom Hanks now. I needed a book that was enjoyable and made me laugh. The characters are vivid and it was fun to get into Annie’s head. I also love romantic comedies and this book is a written rom-com. It’s a great light or summer read, although it’s for a mature audience.
