Jen Fulwiler speaks from her experience of dragging through life day after day until she made the time to write. When she wrote, she ended up with more energy to give her family than when she didn’t follow any dreams. She shares her struggles, successes and lessons learned in Your Blue Flame.
I first heard of Jen Fulwiler from a family member who recommended one of her books to me – One Beautiful Dream. I read her other book, Something Other Than God, shortly after that first one. I enjoyed both immensely and have been following her on social media since. I bought her newest book, Your Blue Flame, shortly after it came out. It’s a book I want to have on hand.
I laughed out loud reading Your Blue Flame and connected with what Jen says about pursuing what makes you come alive. I’ve been doing that more the past few years with this blog and writing novels and getting them published. I try to focus my energies on things where I can use my gifts and not just do something because I might do a good job. If it has to do with reading, writing or marketing, it’s something I enjoy doing. When I feel like I’m using my gifts and contributing, I definitely feel more alive. Your Blue Flame talks about how flames can change during lifetimes, how to figure out your blue flame and how to deal with the excuses, guilt and shame that can come along when a person starts to pursue his or her passion.
Your Blue Flame is a must-read for every adult and would be good for high schoolers to read as well. It’s good to know early in life that you are allowed to pursue a passion, even if it’s on the side. We should all be able to do something in life that makes us feel alive – the world will be better for it!
